Semi sweet rowanberry wine

Rowanberries in Latvia grow both in gardens and in wild. Although the garden berries surprise with their intense color and their different variations, the berries of wild mountain ash are much bitterer in taste. That’s why we use wild berries from vicinity of Gauja National Park. Usually the first ones begin to turn red in the end of August, but ripen in mid-September. This is the right time to make rowan wine.

In Latvia, there is a tradition to call at a wedding: “Bitter, bitter, bitter”. Wedding guests say this when the food or drink is supposed to be bitter and needs to be sweetened with the new couple’s kiss. In this case, there is no need to pretend. You can play a joke with your wedding guests by giving them a real bitter drink.

Berries are harvested in the Gauja National Park. Mountain ash wine fermented and naturally settled for about 12 months. Rowan wine is a good addition to fish dishes, fruits and cheese. Recommend to use chilled +14˚C. Contains sulphites.

From rowanberries we also produce rowanberry tincture.
